Leon QFAQ
Leon Style: |
· One complaint I've heard from some fighting fans of other games about DOA3 is that "all the characters play the same". That little piece of ignorance comes from not understanding the styles and strengths of each character. |
·
Leon for instance is a power character with an
extended throwing game including air and ground throws. He does the same damage
in some cases with a 3 hit string as Ayane would do
with a 6 or 7 hit string. |
·
Leon should use his powerful single hits and short
strings to setup his extensive throw game. If you don't learn to play the throwing game
well in DOA3 you will not be playing Leon style. This also involves learning to use the stage envioronment position well, since you will use your throws
and with your strikes to get wall damage multipliers. |
·
Leon's strings are mostly short and damaging so know
where the critical hits are as they will leave your opponent with no choice but
to attempt counter keep eating the strings.
When they start the mid string counter attempts, mix in the throws ;-)
Isn't that beautiful? You need all of your moves and strings and reversals to
work together. |

· Leons ground strings are pretty predictable after a while
so he should be reversal fodder right? |
· Not if you notice the big timing delays possible to do between his strings like his: |

· b+p,....k
Classic Launcher |
· u+p....p |
· Mix up the TIMINGS which you will find can be almost
as effective as mixing up hit-levels. |
· Leon also foils reversals with nice juggle starters
and Low criticals which are hard to see coming. |
· Mix in alot of single hit
strikes. |
· Leon also has several standing low strikes which can
be very hard to see coming and can setup other strings. |
· |
· ===Don't forget all Leons
powerful single hit strikes and knockbacks=== |
· They only get one chance to reverse these before they
go flying into walls. |

Set0b:Basic P and K Analysis |
· -----Basic Punch Analysis----- |
· One of the fundamentals of DOA3 is to know the hit
level you're striking at. |
· If you just throw out strikes and strings with no idea
of the hit level yourself than you're really playing only a step above a
"masher". Do you want to go
low, high or are they countering high so you're ready do dish out some mean mid
strings. |
· This is especially true with a slower, power style
character like Leon. |
· |
· Notice that only p and b+p are high punches |

Set9:Throws |
· See Throws QFaq |
· Leon is a grappler character that emphasizes throws. |
· It takes skill and strategy to really use throws well
in DOA3 but throws are meant to be a big part of the gameplay, esp. for a
character like Leon. |
· Your basic objective is to use your most powerful strikes and attack strings and juggles to get your opponent to block or attempt reversals. |
